The custom-sized LCDs are available in industry-standard resolutions such as 480x480, 720x720, and 768x768. Higher resolutions and customization are available to meet specific customer requirements.

Sunlight Readability Displays

Sunlight Readability

LCD displays are designed for sunlight readability and include features to maximize the lifetime of the display assembly in rugged applications. The displays can be developed for 1,000 up to 2,000 or more nits at full brightness. These custom-built backlights include internal thermal path features to allow for the high brightness and efficiency for these applications.

NVIS Backlights

These custom aerospace LCD modules include options for NVIS to meet the criteria outlined in MIL-STD-3009. These custom backlight options using proprietary technology to meet strict criteria for chromaticity and radiance while maximizing daytime performance. The custom displays are also available with a dual-mode NVIS option. In this approach, the LCD has 2 independent backlights. One unfiltered for high ambient lighting conditions and a secondary backlight system that is filtered at the light source to meet the NVG criteria. These independent backlights can be enabled by a single pin on the LED driver included with this option.

2. LCDs for Transportation, Digital Signage and Kiosk

Subway Train

Custom Displays / Resized LCD displays / Smart Display Systems:

Spectrum Displays designs, develops and manufactures custom displays to fit our client’s specific application. This includes custom resized LCD’s to full custom photomask displays that can be designed to meet specific application demands where there is not a display size available in the market. Today, we serve markets such as aerospace, transportation / digital signage and medical instrumentation with custom and standard sizes. In addition to our custom and off-the-shelf products, Spectrum Displays can provide a custom solution from early-stage concepts that allow our customers to develop unique products with the ability to be first in the market all the way to full volume production. These products are available worldwide in various markets and Spectrum Displays serves this custom-sized display industry.

Spectrum Displays uses fully licensed partners of the resizing process to support manufacturing custom-sized displays. Our partners have years of experience and are market leaders supplying custom displays from 2.4” to 65” custom-sized displays. These displays have been in full production in high volumes, up to several thousand pieces per year, used in severe applications such as railway transportation, medical and aerospace. The resizing technology has proven to be reliable to meet environmental conditions required for critical applications.

Smart Display Modules:

Spectrum Displays understands every application is unique, the resizing technology allows for small-volume highly customized AMLCDs to fit into the space between the roof line and the door of a train car as an example. Each train, bus and even the stations have these space limitations where off the shelf displays are too large to fit. To build a fully custom photomask LCD to fit the application require millions of dollars in factory tooling investment and each new display design has exorbitant startup costs to support the custom design and tooling. The only viable way to make a custom single display affordable is to utilize displays that are already made in mass production and resize. These custom displays preserve all of the technical complexity of the original LCD. The resized modules include high resolutions, rich color gamut’s with wide-viewing angles, high-brightness backlighting and a variety of robust packaging options.

The custom resized LCD technology combined with the single board computer as smart display module system is a fully tested deliverable and ready for the deployers application software. These systems include the most modern sophisticated processing power, Ethernet connectivity, solid state memory and fan less enclosures.  The complete Smart Display Module (SDM) displays can be manufactured to meet high shock, vibration and environmental standards needed for the application.

Delivering a fully tested display system that is high resolution, wide color gamut gives the deployers a canvas to create virtually any image with their application software. The high-resolution displays are capable of showing any language fonts and/or graphics. The deployers of the SDM systems can create messages to communicate to an international traveler in their native language as an example. In an international airport application, if a known flight is arriving from Tokyo the SDM can be updated in real time to the native language of the arriving flights directing people to customs and immigration or to transportation keeping people moving to the correct destinations. On trains and busses location and destination information is shown also warnings like hold on the vehicle is about to move or stop.  May be in the future the SDM and systems will know who is nearby, communicating with your cell phone and displaying specific messages like the location of your rental car pick up or gate changes.  The high-resolution displays that are full color are ready for advertisement space. These displays provide large companies an outlet to make ad impressions, getting to people even while on a train or bus.

3. Resized Modules

Resized, Custom Sized LCD displays. These LCD displays are resized from a larger LCD to a new size shown in the matrix. The resizing process cuts the donor LCD glass, polarizers and circuit boards to a new size.

Innovative stretch or Bar LCD displays provide Ultra-Wide customized aspect ratio's. These displays include additional options for P-CAP touch screens, rugged water proof enclosures and agency approvals, certification as part of the deliverable are possible upon request.

4. Standard High Bright Modules

OEM LCD modules have limitations with the color available to the user. This is a combination of the backlight LED used and the color filters in the TFT design. The High Bright LCD displays are able to push the color reproduction of the display assembly. The colors shown on the High Bright display is the best-in-class color and is included during the enhancement process, this proprietary technology increases the color through the TFT array delivering life like colors with greater than 90% NTSC.

MTBF 100,000 Hours

One of the core requirements with premium, sunlight readable display technologies, industrial displays these LCDs are designed to satisfy the requirements of diverse range of rugged environments, from transportation to factories and other rugged environments. Utilizing the latest, industry-leading LED backlight technology. The LED-backlit displays include high-end features, such as low EMI (electromagnetic noise), low power consumption with maximum brightness. The LED backlight development is a complete system that includes an internal designed thermal path to reduce internal heat and increases life time of the LED. The system approach allows for an extended backlight life time Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) of 100,000 hours. This exceeds typical product longevity requirements for industrial-grade applications that require continuous operation and minimal maintenance. The Engineering and R&D teams fully test and burn in all products for at least six months including intensive testing and simulation, measuring brightness decay curve on a daily basis.
